This poem is based off Wallace Steven's Poem, "13 Ways of Looking at a Blackbird," in which he describes a blackbird in thirteen different ways. This poem follows that concept, but instead follows the escapades of a single piece of rope.

13 Ways Of Looking At Rope

I. Among the aisles of Home Depot
Lies the still threads
Of a singular piece of rope

II. The rope waits patiently
Silent as the light breeze
Excited to be chosen

III. You pull the rope
Attached to the curtain
As you open a new setting
For the stage

IV. Ropes gather together
joining together to make one rope

V. The rope has been
around longer than written history

VI. A rope necklace drapes around his neck
He is flying above the crowd
Like a cloud of menacing terror

VII. How do you expect me
To talk to you
With a rope constricting my throat

VIII. The rope hitting the ground
In circular rhythm.
Children jump to reveal happy lives

IX. The ropes braided chords
Spiral around each other
Like a double helix, they cling
To each other

X.All together
The strength of many
Used to pull the Trojan horse

XI. Rapunzel's long hair is used
To climb up into her tower
Kind of like the rope
Everyone has to climb in gym class

XII. Careful of hangman's rope
It'll use you to heal itself
While it drains your life

XIII. Aisle after aisle,
Row after row,
Until the one section
Where the little rope lay

In the spirit of Valentine's Day, I write this poem as a relate able poem for those who have a "special someone." Nobody is perfect, but this poem reminds those that being perfect isn't needed to find love, just being yourself and leaving your heart open will lead to love finding itself in.

You Are You

You are not perfect
You are not the thinnest
You are not the most pretty
But you are mine, and I love you

Your smile radiates passion
That motivates me to carry on
Your hair is so long
That when it sways, the grass becomes jealous

My love for you is so strong that there is no definition
What is love?
Just baby don't hurt me,
Don't hurt me, no more

Your eyes don't burn like the sun
Your skin isn't the most smooth
Your laugh is rather obnoxious
But you are mine, and I love you

Our kids look just like you
Unique in every way
My sweet darling wife
You are the center of my life

All About Me

My name is Jordan and I am a  junior at Las Lomas High School. I play many sports, such as baseball, tennis, golf, and skiing. These sports define me and are the things I like to do most. However, I really don’t like to take tests what so ever. They are completely unnecessary and can make or break a student. Other people find me as a fun and outgoing guy that loves to play and watch sports. During the summer of 2013 I played on a baseball team that consisted of baseball players from around the bay that traveled to places like Arizona and Los Angeles to play tournaments. It was a huge blast pitching for a team like this. I also love to visit wild places with my friends and family. Last year, I took one of my friends to my house in Maui, Hawaii and we had a blast visiting the beaches and going on the “Road to Hana.” I also love music. My favorite bands are Imagine Dragons and Capital Cities, as well as their hit songs, “Radioactive” and “Safe and Sound.” For the rest of my time in high school, I am looking forward to playing Varsity baseball and going on more adventures with my friends.
